PMTCT Field Coordinator


Job purpose

In the effort towards Jamaica achieving Elimination status regarding the Mother to Child Transmission of HIV & Syphilis (EMTCT); the HIV/STI/TB Unit seeks to engage a Prevention of Mother-to-Child (PMTCT) Field Coordinator. The candidate will conduct a gap analysis and develop an action plan in collaboration with each parish. The candidate will be tasked with identifying gaps in the PMTCT programme for each parish as well as monitoring the implementation of recommended interventions and adherence to PMTCT protocols.

Qualifications

  • Related degree/diploma in any of the following areas:
    •  Nursing
    • Midwifery
    • Health related area
  • A minimum of 5 years medical experience in the health sector
  • Local experience in public health/primary health care
  • Own a reliable motor vehicle

 

Responsibilities

  • Identify gaps in the PMTCT programme of each parish. Do a gap analysis, with a feasible action plan
  • Collaborate with the PMTCT Parish Coordinator in the identification of training needs for PMTCT nurses and relevant staff in the parish
  • Monitor recommended interventions from a national/subnational level for the PMTCT programme. Identify challenges to the implementation of these interventions at the site, parish, regional levels, prioritizing action items that warrant escalation to the national level
  • Ensure that the still birth review is being done by the parishes/PMTCT Nurses
    • Coordinate the still birth review for 2017 inclusive of fetal loss (20 wks-28wks)
      • Gynaecological/Surgical ward consults may be warranted
    • Audit the records for PMTCT
    • Monitor use of records/registers for Syphilis
  • Monitor the intra-referral system between staff members for the pregnant HIV positive mother and the mother-child pair
  • Monitor the postnatal care of HIV positive mother inclusive of contraceptive measures and options
  • Monitor HIV & Syphilis testing coverage among ANCs
  • Monitor third trimester HIV & Syphilis testing at Delivery Suites/ Labour rooms
  • Ensure there is documentation of the HIV & Syphilis status of every mother that delivers at the relevant facilities
  • Ensure checks with the Medical Records Department are done regarding missed /defaulted HEIs that may have presented to the hospital for other medical care.
  • Collaborate with the Consultant evaluating the private sector for HIV Management at relevant Obstetricians/General Practitioners who offer care to the pregnant woman
    • Ensure documentation of HIV & Syphilis status
    • Ensure Class 1 Notification forms are filled out as needed
    • Do a SWOT analysis of private care for the HIV positive pregnant woman

 

Required competencies

  • Be knowledgeable of Jamaica’s HIV response and the Elimination Initiative
  • Prior experience in the PMTCT programme an advantage
  • Prior experience in an EMTCT Country Validation process a distinct advantage
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Google Docs
  • Amenable to working at sites across the island
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
